Service fails for one of two reasons: the address is wrong, or the respondent is deliberately avoiding it. Both are solvable, and both are why a proceeding stalls for months.
Why so many proceedings stall at service
In contested matrimonial and recovery matters, avoidance of service is routine and often deliberate. The address on record is a parental home the respondent left years ago; deliveries are refused; the person is present but someone else answers the door. Each failed attempt costs a hearing date.
The fix is almost always to establish where the respondent actually is before attempting service, rather than repeating attempts at an address that has already failed. That is tracing work, and it is why we handle both halves.

For overseas lawyers
Serving papers in India from another country
Lawyers in the US, the UK, Canada and Australia regularly need a defendant or respondent in India served. Formal service under the Hague Service Convention goes through India's Central Authority, the Department of Legal Affairs in the Ministry of Law and Justice. India has objected to the informal channels in Article 10 of the Convention, so posting the papers or sending a private server is not normally a substitute, and the formal route takes months.
The biggest single cause of delay is an out-of-date address. We locate the person, confirm by visit that they live or work where the request will say, and report it with the method and date. Where your court has authorised an alternative method, we can carry out a documented personal attempt, and the investigator can swear an affidavit in India that is suitable for apostille and use abroad.

What it costs and how long it takes
₹5,000 – ₹20,000. The lower end is a known, cooperative address; the higher end involves tracing an evasive respondent first.
