Missing Person Tracing in India — Locate Relatives, Debtors and Heirs
Three different situations get called the same thing: someone who is genuinely missing, someone who has deliberately become unreachable, and someone with whom contact simply lapsed. They need different approaches, and one of them needs the police first.
Read this before you call
If a person is genuinely missing — particularly a minor, an elderly person, or anyone where there is a risk to life — your first call should be to the police, not to us. They have powers we do not: access to telecom records, CCTV, hospital and mortuary records, and a national database. A private investigator working in parallel can help, but should never replace that step, and any agency that encourages you to skip it is not acting in your interest.
Where we are genuinely useful is the second and third categories: adults who have chosen to become unreachable, debtors and absconding employees, and relatives or contacts with whom the trail has simply gone cold over the years.
Service scope
What this service covers
Everything below is agreed in writing before any work starts.
What tracing can usually establish
- Current city or locality of an adult who has stopped responding
- Workplace and current employment, where it exists
- Whether a last-known address is still occupied, and by whom
- Current circumstances of a debtor claiming inability to pay
- Location of an absconding employee or business counterparty
- Whether a long-lost relative is traceable, and their present situation
- Confirmation of whether a person wishes to be contacted, before you approach
What you receive
- A feasibility assessment before you commit
- Findings on current city, address or workplace
- Verification that a located address is current
- A written report of the search carried out
- Photographic confirmation where appropriate
- Guidance on the safest way to make contact
For clients overseas
Locating someone in India from abroad
Executors and probate researchers abroad need heirs in India found. Lawyers need witnesses and defendants located. Families need a relative whose contact lapsed a generation ago, and lenders need a borrower who has gone home. The method is the same: start from the place, follow the family and employment trail, and confirm by visit.
Send what you have — names, the village or town, old letters and addresses, photographs — and after a first stage we tell you whether the trail is live. When a person is found, we confirm they are the person you are looking for before anything is passed on and, where appropriate, ask whether they wish to be contacted.
Who we trace for overseas clients
- Heirs and beneficiaries for estates and probate
- Defendants and witnesses for foreign proceedings
- Relatives with whom contact lapsed
- Borrowers and debtors who have returned to India
- Identity confirmed before any details are released
- A written report of the search and its sources
Method
How this service runs
Feasibility review
What you have — last known address, approximate date of last contact, employment, family links, photographs — determines whether this is reachable. We tell you honestly before quoting.
Purpose check
We establish why you are looking. This is not a formality; it is how we avoid being used to locate someone who has deliberately escaped harm.
Record and source enquiry
Public records, previous addresses, employment history and discreet enquiry with trusted sources.
Field verification
Confirming physically that a located address or workplace is current, rather than reporting a record match as a find.
Contact decision
Where the subject is located, we will where appropriate confirm whether they are willing to be contacted before passing details on.
What it costs and how long it takes
₹25,000 – ₹90,000. A recent trail with good last-known details sits at the lower end; a trail several years old and interstate at the higher end.
Your written quote is fixed after a free scoping call, and it will not change based on what we find. If the budget available does not match what the case genuinely requires, we will tell you that rather than running an underscoped enquiry that cannot answer your question.
Where we run this service
Run by our investigators in every city listed and managed from our Jaipur head office.

FAQs
Questions about missing person tracing
If there is any risk to life, or the person is a minor or vulnerable, go to the police first — and they are obliged to register the report. Police have investigative powers no private agency has. Private tracing is appropriate for adults who have chosen to be unreachable, for debtors and absconders, and for cold family trails.
It depends almost entirely on the age of the trail and the quality of your last-known details. A person who went quiet eighteen months ago with a known previous employer is frequently traceable. A trail that is fifteen years old with only a name and a village often is not. We give you that assessment before you commit money, rather than after.
Where the circumstances warrant it, we will confirm that the person has been located and is safe, and seek their position on contact, without disclosing their address. This is not an obstruction; it is the safeguard that makes it possible for us to offer tracing at all.
Often, yes. We establish the India-side trail first — whether they left, from where, the last Indian position and what family contacts indicate — and where the trail leads to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia or the Gulf our investigators there can continue it on the ground. For a country outside that network we will tell you plainly how far we can take it before you commit any money.
Highly variable, which is why we scope it in stages. A first stage establishing whether the trail is live typically runs one to two weeks, after which you decide whether to continue. We would rather you spend a limited amount finding out it is not feasible than a large amount discovering the same thing slowly.
